Are You A Piler?

After scanning years of business documents and FINALLY getting to a point of creating a paperless office, I have realized how much can pile up.

By nature - and, I mean I honestly came by this from my father - I am a piler. This I’ve known since I was a kid, and I always like it until now.

There is something efficient about being a piler, and then something really bad about being a piler.

The dictionary on my Mac doesn’t have a definition for “piler”, but an online dictionary defines it as: “one who places things in a pile”.

Well, I didn’t see that coming!

I was taught in elementary school (that’s ‘grade school’ for you modern types) that you can’t define a word with a form of that word. Yet, they were doing it back in 1913 according to a dictionary on the internet. But then in most dictonaries, I suppose that piler would be a modified version of ‘pile’ and wouldn’t have it’s own entry.

Ok, ANYway!

I pile everything. Papers, old documents, files on my computer, things to get to later, books. Well, I do pile them in cool barrister bookcases - more about books later! But I do, I pile nearly everything.

The efficiency of piles comes in the fact that I know exactly where everything is! No matter when, where, or how I need something - I can find it. I LIKE that!

I am discovering the consequences (the BAD) of being a piler. Life, responsibility, commitments and all that gets in the way of doing something about those piles. Until one day, you have to deal with the pile. And the pile is big, sometimes it takes a while to get through it.

Now that I am moving and will have no room for those piles, it’s an awesome tradeoff. I am SO ready to not be a piler. Being a non-piler in paradise is something I really look forward to!

So how about you? Are you a piler?
